Great Lakes Bowl Set for February
The tenth annual Great Lakes Bowl, a regional competition of National Ocean Sciences Bowl (NOSB), will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2007 at the University of Michigan’s School of Natural Resources and Environment in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
The Great Lakes Bowl is an academic "quiz bowl" competition among high school teams designed to promote literacy in science and mathematics through improved understanding of the world's oceans and Great Lakes.
In this daylong event, teams of four students compete in rapid-fire question and answer matches. Questions test students’ math and science skills related to ocean and Great Lakes biology, chemistry, geology, physics, technology, history and economics.
The Great Lakes Bowl, one of 25 regional competitions of the NOSB, is co-hosted by the NOAA Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory (GLERL), the Cooperative Institute for Limnology and Ecosystems Research (CILER), and Michigan Sea Grant.
Winners of the regional competition are provided with an all-expense paid trip to the National Competition scheduled for April 28-30, 2007 in Stony Brook, New York.
