Habitat: Beaches, bays, lakes, piers, farmlands

  • One of the most common gulls in the Great Lakes region, Ringbills can be seen in both summer and winter.
  • Ring-billed gulls eat fish, carrion found on beaches, insects, and earthworms, and can even be seen foraging in newly plowed fields in spring.
  • Adults appear similar to Herring Gulls but are smaller, about four to five inches shorter in body length. A noticeable black ring encircles their bill. Legs are a yellowish or greenish color.
