Habitat: Marshes, lakes, estuaries.
- The Canvasback appears similar to the Redhead but is larger, with a pale back and a long, sloping forehead. It has a rust-colored head and neck, and a black breast.
- In flight, its pale gray back and white, fine-lined sides look somewhat like canvas fabric, where the species gets its name.
- Canvasbacks and Redheads winter on lakes and bays in large flocks from the northern United States south to the Gulf of Mexico.
