This cruise for teachers — active teachers only please — will focus on the Great Lakes from a science education perspective. Learn how to relate biology, chemistry, geology and physics to the Great Lakes that define Michigan. This research cruise is designed to help you share the Great Lakes with your K-12 students. Also find out about opportunities for additional professional development which come with participant stipends and scholarships.

Great Lakes Science for Kids

GLEPLearn about the ecology of Lake St. Clair or Lake Erie, by using the tools a Great Lakes Scientist uses to determine water quality by studying the plants and animals of the lakes. Try your hand at using a plankton net, bottom dredge, water testing kit, underwater camera, and binoculars to discover the exciting nature of the lake and become a Great Lakes Scientist!

Eagle’s Eye Nature Cruises

Enjoy an extended four-hour cruise to explore the natural and cultural history of the Lower Detroit River and its islands. Our journey around the north end of Grosse Ile and into Canadian waters will provide ample opportunities to view manmade structures such as the swing bridges, navigation lights and passing ships, as well as observe bird life, discuss aquatic ecology, and explain why the Detroit River is not really a river at all. Along the way, we’ll meet up with Mama Juda and find out who put the “Fight” into Fighting Island. This one has it all.
