Description
- Funding Opportunity Number: NOAA-OAR-SG-2012-2003249
- Expected Number of Awards: 7
- Estimated Total Program Funding: $3,200,000
- Researchers may request $50,000-$500,000 for up to two years
Depending on the availability of funds, NOAA expects to have approximately $3,200,000 available for a national competition to fund marine aquaculture research projects for FY 2012. Aquaculture that occurs in the Great Lakes or its coastal zone is considered marine aquaculture for this competition. Priorities for this FY 2012 competition include:
- Research to inform specific regulatory decisions;
- Research that supports multi-use spatial planning; and
- Socio-economic research targeted to understand aquaculture in a larger context.
Researchers must be able to express how the proposed work will have a high probability of significantly advancing U.S. marine aquaculture development in the short-term (1-2 years) or medium-term (3-5 years).
Eligibility
Institutions of higher education, nonprofit organizations, commercial organizations, state, local and Indian tribal governments and individuals from Michigan are eligible to apply through Michigan Sea Grant. Federal agencies and their personnel are not permitted to receive federal funding under this competition; however, federal scientists can serve as uncompensated partners or Co-Principal Investigators on research proposals. Directors of the state Sea Grant Programs are not eligible to compete for funds under this announcement, although for administrative purposes, they will be considered the Principal Investigator for all awards made to their state programs.
Application Instructions
By March 9, 2012, applicants should receive a summary statement that includes whether their pre-proposal is likely to fare well ("encouraged") or poorly ("discouraged") as a submitted full proposal. Only those who submit pre-proposals that meet the deadline, are responsive to this Federal Funding Opportunity, and meet all other requirements of this notice are eligible to submit full proposals, due April 17, 2012 4 p.m. EST.
Call for Integrated Assessment Proposals
Every two years, Michigan Sea Grant invites proposals for Integrated Assessment projects. Researchers from any accredited University in the state of Michigan are eligible to apply as a Principal Investigator. However, project teams are not limited to university researchers or Michigan residents. Only those investigators who have submitted pre-proposals are eligible to submit full proposals.
Description
Integrated Assessment research projects synthesize existing natural and social scientific information in the context of a policy or management question. The goal is to develop information, create tools and build partnerships that will improve decision making for particularly challenging coastal issues in the state. Michigan Sea Grant works in partnership with local, state, federal and tribal governments to identify a range of research topics. Additional information about these topics will be available later in 2012.
