Recreational Boating and Educational Conference to be Held in Bay City, Michigan
Michigan’s marine industry leaders will gather at the annual Recreational Boating Educational Conference to be held December 3-5, 2008 at the Double Tree Hotel on the Bay City riverfront.
This annual conference helps Michigan’s marine industry leaders build better businesses through education, information and networking. A variety of presentations are scheduled throughout the conference that will address economic issues and retail trends affecting marinas. Working waterfronts and water access issues are among the topics to be covered.
“Access to water is key to boating,” said Michigan Sea Grant Extension Educator Mark Breederland. “Our session will give an overview of the national context for working waterfront and water access issues and discuss the status of these issues in Michigan.”
Among the other scheduled speakers will be John Austin, Executive Director of the New Economy Initiative for Southeast Michigan, who will discuss Great Lakes resources in a regional economic context.
The conference will also provide an opportunity for marina owners to participate in a half-day workshop focusing on practical tips, developed by the Michigan Clean Marina Program, to control pollutants associated with recreational boating.
The RBEC conference is sponsored by the Michigan Boating Industries Association in conjunction with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Michigan Sea Grant, and Michigan Harbor Masters. It is being held in conjunction with the first annual Michigan Marine Industry Trade Show.
