Status and trends for the Detroit River and Western Lake Erie

The State of the Strait Conference will be held Tuesday, December 5, 2006, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Flat Rock Community Center, in Flat Rock, Michigan.  This conference, focusing on the Detroit River and Western Lake Erie, is designed to foster Canada-U.S. cooperation, strengthen knowledge, and continuously improve management efforts.

“Conference participants will learn about key indicators, such as fish contaminants, coastal wetland loss, land use changes, pollutants and other information to aid policy makers and managers in decision-making,” said Mary Bohling, Michigan Sea Grant’s extension educator, based in Detroit.

The State of the Strait Conference is sponsored by the following: U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Environment Canada, Michigan Sea Grant, University of Michigan–Dearborn, Michigan Environmental Management Association, Metropolitan Affairs Coalition, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, DTE Energy, International Joint Commission, Canadian Consulate, Camp Dresser and McKee, Inc., Great Lakes Fishery Trust, University of Windsor, International Wildlife Refuge Alliance, and Friends of the Detroit River.
