JENNIFER READ NAMED ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, MICHIGAN SEA GRANT
Michigan Sea Grant is pleased to announce that Jennifer Read has joined the staff as Assistant Director. Read is a specialist in Great Lakes pollution policy with a doctorate in environmental history from the University of Western Ontario (London, Ontario). She brings several years' experience in environmental program development, research and management to her new position.
As Assistant Director and member of the Management Team, Read will provide intellectual leadership and policy development for Michigan Sea Grant. She will oversee the day-to-day operations of Michigan Sea Grant's Ann Arbor offices and pursue teaching and research opportunities contributing to the development of Michigan Sea Grant's overall vision.
"I'm excited to be working with Michigan Sea Grant," Read says, "And I'm looking forward to collaborating with the Great Lakes Sea Grant Network and others in the Great Lakes community as we work on our shared goals for coastal resource management and protection."
Prior to joining Michigan Sea Grant, Read was at the Great Lakes Institute for Environmental Research at the University of Windsor. There she was responsible for program development, planning, research and management on a number of Detroit River and other regional environmental issues. Read has also served as a consultant to the Great Lakes Commission and the International Joint Commission.
"We're pleased to have Dr. Read on board at Michigan Sea Grant," says Acting Director George Carignan, "Her academic credentials and policy experience will add a new dimension to our state and region-wide initiatives."
