Aquatic Invasive Species

Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) have been introduced into the Great Lakes since 1880. AIS are detrimental to fisheries and threaten the biodiversity of the Great Lakes. The increase in the number of invasive species has had a dramatic impact on commercial and sport fisheries and other coastal-based industries.

The Great Lakes Sea Grant Network funds research, supports public outreach by distributing AIS fact sheets, wallet-size ID cards and other publications to raise awareness about AIS and to avoid transporting them.

There are also a variety of engaging educational activities and lessons that focus on the impacts of invasive species and what you can do to help.

For more information about current research, educational programs, or to order publications, please contact your state Sea Grant program.
