Charting the Course for the Bluewater Coast
In 2009, Michigan Sea Grant began a project focusing on the coastal region of Michigan’s Thumb, including Tuscola, Huron, Sanilac and St. Clair counties. University researchers worked with community members, examining opportunities to enhance tourism and recreation opportunities along the coast. This website describes the collaborative research process, the project findings and the tools that have been developed through this process.
Some highlights include:
- Results and Final Reports
- Marketing Tools and Fact Sheets
- Conservation Tools and Maps
- Meetings and Presentations
Project partners are hosting a Thumb Tourism Workshop and Bus Tour on November 17, 2014. This free workshop will provide valuable information including current tourism research data, a look at various niche markets and examples that other communities may employ to foster tourism development. Participants will visit Thumb destinations such as historic sites, a winery, coastal assets and an internet café.
See Event Details to learn more and to register.
Project partners also hosted a Thumb Tourism Summit in 2013.
