Environmental Statement
The State of Lake Michigan 2007 conference organizers pledge to reduce the environmental impact (carbon emission, waste, etc.) to the Lake Michigan Basin from planning and attending this conference. Our environmental approach includes:
- Offsetting carbon emissions (i.e., air travel) by purchasing carbon credits
- Decreasing the amount of waste produced by the conference
- Reducing energy and water consumption
- Disposing of waste in an environmentally responsible manner
- Eliminating the use of harmful chemicals at the event
Carbon Credits or Offset
Reducing or eliminating carbon emissions is not always possible, particularly when traveling. Many businesses and individuals are employing new methods to compensate for greenhouse gas emissions from personal air travel. Thus, there are now options to donate to companies and support renewable energy options (i.e., solar, wind) to offset fossil fuel emissions. Several organizations are offering carbon credits for businesses and individuals to support these efforts to reduce the impact of carbon emissions and invest in the mitigation or prevention of global climate change.
