Summer Discovery Cruises on Lake St. Clair
Experience the beauty and unique ecology of Lake St. Clair aboard a Summer Discovery Cruise. These two-hour cruises, sponsored by Michigan Sea Grant and its Metropark partners, are the perfect way to enjoy a summer morning or afternoon while learning about the history, culture or science of the lake. Paddle By Your Refuge
The fourth annual Paddle By Your Refuge event is scheduled for Sunday, September 14, 2008. This popular event begins in Elizabeth Park in Trenton, with guided trips to Humbug Marsh and Island. Paddlers have the opportunity to learn about kayaking and the unique natural resources and wildlife of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge. To read about the 2007 event, see: Website

Great Lakes Education Program
This award-winning, ship-board program introduces Michigan fourth-graders in Macomb and Wayne counties to the unique features of the Great Lakes through a combination of classroom learning and hands-on experience. The fall 2008 season starts September 15, 2008. For more information, interested educators can contact Michigan Sea Grant Extension Educator Steve Stewart.

Hawkfest: Lake Erie Metropark
The annual Hawkfest at Lake Erie Metropark is scheduled for September 20-21, 2008. Visitors learn firsthand why the lower Detroit River and western Lake Erie Basin are such an important region during the fall raptor migration. For more information, see: Website

Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge
Numerous local partners including Michigan Sea Grant have been working together to further cooperative conservation and ecotourism efforts in the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge. The refuge covers 48 miles of shoreline along the lower Detroit River and the western basin of Lake Erie. See: Details
