Fees and Policies
Class Size
We recommend class sizes of up to 30 students, plus four adult chaperones and the class teacher. The maximum group size is 35, per U.S. Coast Guard regulations.
Fees
The standard cost for each class is $630. This fee provides your class with a day-long educational experience (a schoolship cruise as well as shoreside education), and covers vessel costs, an Educator’s Notebook (classroom curriculum), and training for teachers new to GLEP education.
- ALL Elementary classes will receive $330 SCHOLARSHIPS provided by MSU Extension and the Michigan Sea Grant College Program, reducing the net cost/class to $300.
- ALL Middle and High School classes will receive $130 SCHOLARSHIPS provided by MSU Extension and the Michigan Sea Grant College Program, reducing the net cost/class to $500.
- There is no limit on how many classes from your school may participate and receive these scholarships.
- DPS classes only: The first 20 Elementary classes to register will also receive $200 supplemental scholarships, reducing the net cost/class to $100, as well as free bus transportation provided by the Toyota H2O Water Quality Initiative. Classes must register in pairs from the same school, however! No single classes.
Cancellation Policy
If you cancel an existing reservation, we must receive written notice of your cancellation at least 30 days before your scheduled date. If you notify us of cancellation less than 30 days prior to your scheduled date, you agree to pay a $100 cancellation fee.
If a cruise is cancelled due to weather or vessel-related reasons, an alternate date will be scheduled. The captain of the vessel determines circumstances under which the vessel will sail, rules of conduct, and other matters aboard the vessel (hazardous conditions or other unavoidable circumstances).
Program Orientation
All first-time teachers must attend a two-hour program orientation prior to their scheduled cruise date. Teacher orientation dates will be provided once registration forms have been received. |
If you are interested in having your class participate in the upcoming program, please complete the PDF registration form below.

In order to be eligible to participate, you must mail or fax the registration form. Note: due to the number of requests for dates, we cannot accept telephone reservations.
Reservations will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. We reserve the right to schedule your class so as to accommodate the maximum number of classes possible. If two classes from one school plan to participate, they should do so on the same date.
Confirmation
You will receive confirmation of your reservation(s) as soon as your signed form has been received and your cruise date(s) have been assigned. Detailed information regarding teacher training, cruise departure/arrival time and program policies will be provided following your registration. We look forward to discovering the wonders of our Great Lakes with you!
