Role
Works with coastal communities and businesses in southeast Michigan to apply science-based knowledge to address Great Lakes, western Lake Erie and southern Lake Huron issues. Counties include Tuscola, Huron, Sanilac, St. Clair, Macomb, Wayne and Monroe.
Focus
- Developed and directs the Great Lakes Education Program (GLEP), a schoolship program that targets fourth-grade students and involves approximately 200 classes each year in classroom learning and educational cruises on Lake St. Clair and the lower Detroit River.
- Promotes public awareness of aquatic nuisance species by conducting teacher training day camps and educational presentations
- Assists in coordinating public information seminars on issues of interest to the public such as Great Lakes water levels.
- Serves as a consultant to local organizations and businesses on matters relating to coastal processes, fisheries education, water safety and recreational boating.
